this is one of those problems that has pissed me off for years. you are watching something with your dvd player, winamp, wmp, quicktime, etc and you crank down the volume in THAT piece of software and then that turns down your ENTIRE system volume. Now i can't find the piece of software that has the low volume.

is there anyway to avoid this? any way to detect which program throttled the volume low? i know i shoul just never mess with the volume in the programs but it's just so easy...

anybody?

thanks!

Not quite sure what you are saying, so correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you are saying if you turn down the volume in a media player like Windows media player it adjusts the system volume and not just the program volume, then you want to turn your sound back up but can't find which program you turned the volume down in? Is that right? If that's the case, simply turn up the master volume from the level mixer...

i tried that, i have it maxed. i use Rhapsody (unlimited streaming music) and if i crank down the volume slider in the program my entire system volume will be down. even if i shut down rhapsody. works with WMP as well.

my master volume in the level mixer never changes...
