I have 6 computers that I would like to network all together so that when you save a something like a word document, it saves it on one main "server." I am going to be using a PIII450 as something like a server.

Basically, I want a Novell like network,in XP, where you click on your name to log in and the same desktop, programs, and documents come up across all computers. Is there any way you can do this without using Novell? Is there something newer and more "GUI friendly" than Novell?

edit: if it sounds like I dont know what I am talking about, its because I dont.

You need to build a Windows domain (Windows 2000 server, Windows 2003 server, etc.) and use roaming profiles to move your user identies around.

The domain is fairly simple, roaming profiles are a bit more challenging. Best of luck!

Alright, I got Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition up and running with the help of "Windows Server 2003 for Dummies."

I got my domain controller working, or at least I believe I do. Now I am trying to set up some roaming profiles. So according to the book, I copied a profile from one of my XP machines to the server (E:\Users\Elvin). I then added a new user through the "Active Directory Users and Computer" window. Under the profile tab, I put \\server(thats what I named the computer)\users\Elvin(name of the user). Now, how can I log in from a XP machine under the name Elvin?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
