So my trust 5-year-old SONY VAIO died at the end of business trip last week. I have a 5-day window before I head off on another trip.

If I get a HP Spectre x360 with Win8.1, I'd like to go ahead and upgrade it to Win10. Would this be possible this week? And how?

I HATE WIN8.1!!!
 
People are actually running the preview build as their only OS, and seem to be doing OK with it. The only way you can have it now AND continue to have it for free is to join the insider program. Keep in mind that you will (supposedly) be sharing more information with Microsoft than waiting for the "normal" upgrade, but it will be free as long as you keep it that way.

Honestly, just install 8.1, install a free start menu replacement if you need it, install all updates, and wait a few weeks for your computer to get the free upgrade.

Yep. Tried all combinations.

I took out the SSD and RAM DIMMS and recycled the thing while in Germany on Saturday.

I was working along when it all the sudden it literally went *poof.* It's okay though. The data is fine and I have been looking for a replacement for a while.

Lenovo (ThinkPad Yoga 14) vs. HP Spectre x360...?
