Approximately two years ago, I purchased some 18Gb Compaq SCSI hard drives from Ubid. These were the subject of a hot deal on Anandtech, I believe, although I can't seem to find the discussion in the listings. They were purchased around 6/30/01.

At any rate, the drives were sold as new (and they were unopened and new) and with full warranty. I actually called Compaq at the time and they assured me that these drives were an authorized surplus sale and had full warranty.

Well, surprise, the drives have dropped dead, and the warranty calculator on the HP/Compaq site says the warranties all expired last year (about 10 months after I bought them).

I emailed HP, and their response was "Ubid usually sells used drives. Sorry, not our problem." They don't even seem to be interested in hearing about it. (No, show us the receipt and prove it).

Anyone had success getting warranty service from HP/Compaq on hard drives using a receipt?

Anyone remember these hard drives?

good luck, I dont see it happening, but you might try sending them a statement from your credit card statement or paypal recipt.

you'll be really lucky if the accept a warranty from any bid.com also if you know who you bought it from you might be able to get a bill of sale made up (or make up one)
