I've noticed lately that when the forums are experiencing heavy traffic, it tosses you over to another server or another virtual server, forums1. or forums2. instead of forums.anandtech.com, and when it does that, it re-sets all the "visited links" in your browser, which I rely on to quickly tell at a glance which threads I've already read

Not sure on this one, but I think it's because your browser is looking at forums1.anandtech.com and forums2.anandtech.com as being different servers than forums.anandtech.com. And because of this, it can't distinguish between links you've already visited and those you haven't.

For example, the following links are all for this thread:
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

However, the first is on forums.anandtech.com, the second points to forums1.anandtech.com and the third points to forums2.anandtech.com. If you got to this page from forums.anandtech.com, the first link would be shown as one you already followed, and so on for forums1 and forums2.

Hope this helps explain it.

I know, this is the problem. I was wondering if there was any way to fix the problem, but I guess there isn't

okay, its gettin' really annoying now. :( is there any way to forward to another server without chaning the subdomain in the url from forums.anandtech to forums2.anandtech because doing that just wipes out the visited link thing. or any other way to get around this problem?
