Question Any way to fix burn-in?

My second monitor is one I've had for over ten years, but I recently ran into an issue where sometimes my displays won't go to sleep and I won't notice for quite a while (I work very long hours and sometimes out of town) and while I'm usually always turning off my PC before I go to bed or go to work, sometimes I get busy and forget. My second monitor has a slight image burnt in that's really only visible against darker backgrounds but it's enough that it annoys me so I'm curious if there's any way to reduce or get rid of the burnt-in image. There's a wikipedia article that claims some remedial software could lessen or fix the issue, but it doesn't go much further than that.

To even it out you could display a negative of the image that is burned in. Eventually the whole screen will be burned more or less evenly.

Next time buy LCD?
