Any way to find out if someone really won the lottery?

Anyone have any idea? A friend is in the process of potentially bidding on a house - the owner claims to have won the lottery a few years ago, so they aren't willing to 'budge' on their asking price - but a lot of what they are saying seems sketchy at best...

Indiana is the state by the way...

thanks.

If they aren't willing to budge on their asking price what does it matter if they're lying about the lottery win or not?

I agree with Kiyup. What does it matter? If the owner doesn't want to sell below his price and he said he is the Queen of England, who cares?

if you're looking for ammo... you can probably find the price they bought the house for on domania... you can rub their nose in knowing how much they are about to profit... mind games are great.

If you don't want to register, PM me the addy and I'll tell you.

Like Kiyup said, if they won't budge, their reason doesn't matter. They could have said aliens were abducting them, as the outcome is the same - they won't budge.

It just doesn't make sense what they claim. They are saying, since we are rich now, we want to get the most possible from our house? But if they were poor, then they would take less? Isn't that the opposite that you'd expect?

How exactly is it relevant?

Whatever his reasons, the house is worth exactly what someone will pay for it.

If his price is too high, it won't sell.

If you won't pay what he wants (but someone else will), you can't afford it.

It's really not that complicated.

If someone needs the money ASAP (ie rolling it into a new house) they would be more likely to take less rather than wait it out for a higher bidder.

They're basically saying "We don't need the money that bad, we make the rules."

Because they are in no desperate need to sell... they can take their time till someone gives them what they're looking for. People are looking to maximize profits while a few thousand really doesn't make much of a difference in the big picture... they're just money-grubbing.

BTW, the house across from us is selling for $393k. Domania shows they paid $315,500 in Sept 02! Nice potential profit in 1.5 years, ya think ?

rh71 - Is this only for recent home sales? I tried a friend's house bought about June of 2003 and it says it can't find it. Do the houses have to be on some sort of realtors network or something?

How is this lottery claim relevant? I suppose you could hold it over them if you catch them in a lie, but the reality is, true or not, it is just s negotiating ploy.

If he won't budge, you either walk away or raise your offer....
