Any way to enable the old span mode in vista?

Two monitors 1920*1200 and 1024*1200

Would like windows to see one monitor with 2944*1200

Cheers

Use the Extend option for the other screen in your vendor's Display Manager?

There's also the standard one in the Display options, standard in every Vista. Just right click on the desktop, select Properties, then Display, click your monitor labeled as "2" and on the bottom there should be "extend my desktop to this screen" or something.

Yeah I can get the extended desktop, I want span mode.

Extended desktop ---------------- two monitors 1920*1200 and 1024*1200
span mode--------------------------one monitor 2944*1200

Anything running full screen will span across the whole resolution of the desktop.

Span mode is typically vendor specific, even Windows XP only does extend by itself. So poke around in your Nvidia / ATI advanced options.

I haven't had an ATI card since I had Xp and I haven't had a monitor config where I've needed it in vista until today.

All I know is I don't have the option now, just clone or extend.

I did used to have it in Xp but that was with an ATI card so I dont know if:
....It only works in Xp for ATI and NV
....It works for ATI in vista and Xp
....it works for both in vista and Xp and I'm doing something wrong

Ultramon is great for extra desktop options (extended taskbar, etc) but it doesn't do quite the same thing as the old Horizontal Span mode in the drivers, particularly for full screen 3d.

Hopefully its just a vista thing and it will come back for Win7 *dreams* :D

Are you sure its span mode and not just the normal extended desktop?

3d apps in full screen extend over all the monitors?

I'm not doubting you its just I'm gonna be a bit pissed if ATI does this and my card cant.

Spans are explicitly not supported by WDDM in Vista. You might be able to load an XPDM driver, but I have no clue if that would actually give you span capability and you will lose Aero, among other things.

So no span with ATI either then, at least that saves me from looking for a new card.

Do you know whether it was not doable in Vista or was removed for other reasons?

Who knows why they didnt include it. I'm pissed that I just moved to Vista 64 and am LOSING functionality from an upgrade. I used span all the time in gaming. Windows 7 better bring it back.
