Any way to disable the smoke effects in D3?

Is there a single console command that will disable the smoke effects in D3? Specifically, I'm getting slowdowns when there is a alot of smoke on the screen, especially with the Imps and their fireballs.

He's too busy playing Doom3 now that it's not a slide show 🙂

Helping people on the boards is often a thankless job. But I'm sure other people will benefit from the guide you linked, so good work!

Sorry 'bout that....I've been on the road all morning and this was the first chance I've had to reply.

Turning off the particle effects definately helped, but it turned off more than just the smoke. D3 is definately playable with particles turned on, so I can live with the smoke performance hit.

That's a great site for gaming guides that I hadn't heard of until now.

Here's a  for you!

9800pro users are getting good performance from the cachemeg tweak by creating separate autoexec.cfg saving it from the original doomconfig.cfg file.

just google this tweak.
