Any way to convert .m4v to something watchable?

My ultimate goal would be to burn these to a DVD, so first I need them in an acceptable format. Does anyone know any free/trial software that I could use to get these in an acceptable file type? I can't find anything.

have you checked the "tools" section at videohelp.com?

plus i thought m4v was an mp4 file. if you install all the codecs i think it will just play in mediaplayer
