Any way to control pc over network

Here is my situation:

My main computer is in a different room than my modem & router. I have an old 1000mhz P3 that I wouldnt mind hooking up as a file server w/ Windows OS. Is there anyway I can put the computer in the room with my router (using the tv as a temp monitor) and then having access to it over the network?

Basically I am trying to avoid buying a KVW switch and another cat 5 cable (not to mention going up in the attic to run wires). Mainly becasue I cant afford either one.

So I am looking for windows software to let me access a computer from another computer.

Any options?

go to google and type in Real VNC.. first link.

that's what I use to remotely control any PC's on my network.

if the server is running xp pro or higher eg. windows 2003, you can use terminal server.

Real VNC is awesome. I've been using it at work since we got our satellite connection about 18 months ago. I now use it at home too. Sweet, easy, and free.
