Any way to connect a laptop and a desktop using an ethernet cable?

Hi, I'm trying to connect my laptop to my desktop to transfer files and I'm wondering if it is possible to connect them with their ethernet ports.

Sure is, use a crossover network cable and it should work for ya.

And if you can find a crossover cable to borrow or know someone that can just make the cable for you, it's a rip off to pay the $20-$30 you'll find for them at places like Best Buy...
