I had to take off my heatsink and reseat my 1800+ to get it to work, don't know what I did wrong, but it worked the second time. I'm afraid I messed up the thermal seal between hsf and core by using the same thermal paste junk that came with retail hsf.

I occationally wake up and turn on my monitor after a night of downloading to see a black screen, I'm worried about cpu temps.

I can check temp in bios, but anyway to check while its under full load? I have 98se btw.

Also looking for advise about another possible cause of the black screen (I know its not the monitor)

XP 1800+ (with retail hsf)
ECS K7S5A
300W psu AMD approved upto 2100+
2 x 256 pc133 (generic, but i've used them for about 6 months no prob on a pc-chips board)
visiontek geforce3 ti200 ($89 due to hotedeals, thanks guys)
40 gig WD 7200 HDD
80 gig Maxtor 7200 HDD
19" ev910 (I am positive monitor isn't the prob)
12x10x32x TDK burner
52x creative infra cd-rom
sb live value
Win 98se

Most of that info is probably irrelevant, but want to cover all my bases. Thanks for your help ahead of time guys.

oops, one more thing, I have 2 intake and 2 exhaust thermaltake 80mm fans in my chieftec (antec 1040 lookalike) case, so I don't think that ventilation is an issue.
