Any way to change the thumbnail for a video file?

Couldn't find this online anywhere so hopefully someone here can help.

I have a bunch of AVI files but some of them start with black and fade into the video. When I view the thumbnails for these, they are all just black. Is there any way I can change that frame it uses for the thumbnail for each video?

Yeah for Windows Explorer so when I go to File, Open or whatever, I can figure out what each one is to import it into something else.
