any way to change the decoder Winamp uses?

I hate winamp's MP3 playing. IT adds lots of hiss and pops that other programs like SOnique don't have. The sound is also of just a lower quality. However, I like the features of Winamp more than any other player out there. Is there any way to get the best of both worlds - using another decoder than the default one with Winamp? That would be sweet

Yes, you're in luck. You have a choice of several decoding plugins for WinAMP. The two best I know of at the moment are MAD and in_mpg123.

They have instructions on setting them up at their respective sites. It's very easy :) Have fun

the other one doesn't seem as advanced as MAD, I just went for MAD. Give it a shot, though, and tell me how it it

one bad thing about it is it's slower for seeking large files....just initially...after the first seek it's fine...

all in all, better than my aureal plug-in, which was kinda cool, but a little too much crap added to it.

Dont even bother with winamp and get a real encoder.
Use steinberg wavlab or audioactive.
