Any way to change mac address?

My friend is the Dlink (OEM) driver programer.
I heard from him that some router model can change mac address.
I check mine: SMC 7004vwbr, there is no this function.
Does anyone have exprence to change mac address?

Now I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I also happen to have an SMC7004 (mine is the cabled version). The router does allow you to specify the MAC address that it will use when communicating through the WAN port. I know this because I recently had to reload the MAC address from my original computer back into the router so that it would work with Comcast cable (another @Home --> ATTBI --> Comcast refugee). I think you should find the option under the WAN selection of Advanced Set-Up (I'm not at my home machine right now, or I'd look for you).

On all cable/dsl routers there should be an option called Clone MAC address. I think that's what your friend is referring to.

It's called MAC address cloning. You can't CHANGE the MAC address, that's perminately hard coded.

That may be true for most NIC's, but I've seen NIC's that allow you to change the MAC address with special tool.

Sometimes called "Locally Administered Address" (LAA) on a NIC's "Advanced Properties."

It's not that unusual.

On home / SOHO routers it's sometimes called "Mac SPoofing" or "MAC Cloning."

Why do you want to change it?

Realtek had a utility that allowed you to change any Realtek NIC MAC. It's called Orb. I'm sure it's floating around the Web somewhere.
