When a QoS-aware program is in use it will reserve the allocated amount of bandwidth and that will take away form other non QoS-aware programs. However, once the QoS-aware application is closed or closes the network connection, the bandwidth reservation is released. This is done by a series of PATH and RESV refresh messages sent back and fourth over the connection. Once these messages are no longer detected, the data flow is closed and the reservation of bandwidth is eliminated.
I've got the same situation (kinda) and the problem with this solution is that the Netlimiter program shows up on the system tray and there is no option to hide it. Is there a way to manipulate the registry or the program itself to make it always hide its systray icon?Originally posted by: franguinho
The NetLimiter suggestion is pretty good and I'm considering it because he's one of those people that have a zillion things pop up on startup and don't know what half of them are and also like use kazaa to play music etc, you get the picture. So i could easily install it on his comp and he wouldnt even notice its there but theres a small chance his dad could find it and potentially blame me (his dad is a comp techie guy but rarely comes over to start with).
shuttleteam thanks a lot dude! actually, could you just post the same thjing but with the default values so that i can undo it later?
