Any way to ALT-TAB your way out of Quake3 in winXP?

This is one annoying thing about XP that i've never ever EVER EVER liked. I cannot press the windows key, alt-tab, or control+esc to kick myself (temporarily) out of a game of q3. This used to work in Win2k, but for some reason XP doesn't have this function. Are there any options to turn this on, or any programs that might help out?
 
OMG, you are GOD my man!!!! It doesn't do exactly what the windows key used to do, but at least it kinda sorta works!! THANK YOU!!!!
