Empire Earth does not have a windowed mode, which is a shame cuz many other titles of that era do.

The widescreen mode looks like poo so I wont be using that. Would like to see campaign walkthroughs off to the side while I'm playing, instead of alt-tabbing out all the time. This is a problem as it often crashes if I do it too many times.

I wanted to try playing simcity 4 in windows mode and found out you could by adding
"-w" command line .exe in its property tab. maybe it could work for your game.

Nope, already looked for command line parameters and the usual stuff. Nothing I could find actually works.

Some games just don't allow it unfortunately. You have probably already tried all the usuals like -windowed, -w, etc.

Other than that you could try DxWnd (http://sourceforge.net/projects/dxwnd/), which runs directx applications in a window.

Not sure if you know, but you can also combine it with a widescreen option:

http://www.widescreengaming.net/wiki/SimCity_4

example:
"C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps\SimCity 4.exe" -w -CustomResolution:enabled -r1680x1050x32
