Any way around the "restocking fee"?

I bought a product that I want to return, but the company has 15% restocking fee on non-defective products. How can I get around that? Should I say it was in fact defective? Or just speak with the manager?

I ordered several more expensive things with this order, so they wouldn't lose any "processing" or "order handling" money...

We catch you in lies, and then get pissed. Bad idea. Our contract says 30% restocking fee on non-defective items. Piss us off and pay for it ;)

They have to pay someone to test products they get back, and then to re-seal or send in for a RMA the product to get a new package. How do you figure the store is not losing money? Be honest about it, and pay the fee ;)

Restocking fees help pay for the fact that an item is now used, as well as having to test it, and er, restock it. Time is money. Your the one asking to return it. Why should it cost them for that luxury. Also, don't lie....it's not nice. ;)

1st try:
better to ask them if they can waive the restocking fee since you've bought "several more expensive things" and tell them you're a potential frequent high amount purchase customer.

2nd try:
let the credit card company eats it if you're using one with purchase protection.

Just ask! A few weeks ago I ordered a 256MB SO-DIMM from Mwave. When I got it I discovered it was twice the size of a normal SO-DIMM thus it would not fit in my laptop. I got an RMA number from them and sent it back. A few days later I emailed them asking if there would be a restocking fee (which there should have been seeing as it was not defective) and they said there would not be one. Maybe you will be lucky too.
