Any VOLLEYBALL players here?

DOA Xtreme doesn't count 😉

I'm a novice player and I love to get some input from serious players.

Yea played all 4 years in high school. I was damn good, but too small to make it in a big-name college. I'm just a wee bit under 5'10".

Oh well, still play 2on2 beach whenever I can.

well, i was just wondering what some good team drills are, for novice to intermediate players. we play at our church once a week, but lately all we do is play games, instead of practising skills.

I played it in my H.S. for 1/2 a semester when Weight Training Classes were full.

I sucked 🙂 Couldnt serve for my life.. hahaha 🙂 I still play on occasion @ the beach.

I've played in a church "league" like that before. People go to have fun, not do practice drills.

Besides, without the proper technique practicing will only encourage bad habits.

well, could you point me in the direction of learning proper technique practicing?

Played 3 of my 4 years in high school. The one year I didn't play, I fractured my ankle and was in a cast for 3 months. But we were league champs all the years I was playing. Its nice seeing your name in the newspaper. Van - 5 aces We lost in the 2nd round of CIF when we played the #2 ranked team in So. Cal. We were ranked 9th at the beginning of the season. I miss it. 🙁

I played in HS (mostly centre, some power) and last semester in my Uni's intramural leagues, but not this semester.

iamme, I'm affraid that with once a week practice, you guys will never be good. When we start our season in HS last year, we all SUCKED big time. But for the next 3 months we practiced seriously (at least 10hrs/week) and after 3 months we were a real team. The passing, the setting, the spiking, everything was good. We even managed to make some nice plays (I love doing quick spikes).

Anyway, if you wanna get good, you need to get a good coach and practice a lot.

Good luck

Me too. I wish I was a little bit taller. 🙁 *cue music*

you need to find someone with some skills and pepper... a lot. If you don't have enough control for that, just pass back and forth. Then advance to getting a pass from your partner, hitting it up in the air to yourself and passing it back to your partner.

You can practice setting and even passing against a wall if you can't find a partner.

Hitting drills are easier if you have a good setter, a bag full of balls and a bunch of guys to keep the line moving. You can also do beach warmups where your partner hits it at you (easy pepper type spike) you pass it pack to him, he sets, and you hit over the net.

You can try to find a community college. They usually have fun classes that include drills.
