I'm a larger than average guy. 6'3", 275. I don't have sausages for fingers, but they're definitely far from bones. Do I have any chance at playing the violin?

Yes, you'd be surprised how nimble and accurate you can be. I say that not only from observing people with larger hands/fingers play very well, but also because I used to be completely unable to play on my kid's 1/10 size violin, but now I can place my fingers on that tiny little instrument and actually get single, true notes out of it!

Thanks for all the help guys! I've decided to buy the $150 violin to learn on. I stopped by the music shop with a friend today and played it for a little bit and it felt really cool to actually be playing one. It didn't play like a piece of junk like I thought it would, it sounded pretty nice. I'm going to ask him for suggestions on books tomorrow or the day after hopefully when I pick it up. I'll also be sure to check out The Art of Violin Playing and I'm going to join the yahoo group suggested. Thanks again for all the help 🙂
