Any violin player

Can anyone please give me some recommendation for the cheap violins in ebay, I know they are cheap in price and quality, I need to find one for my kid as a beginner. Does anyone know any related forum I can search, thanks.

If its a beginners violin I would head to Brook Mays or Williamson's and grab a 200-250 dollar violin combo with case and bow. You shouldnt be spending more in case your child decides that it isn't worth his/her time, doesn't enjoy it, breaks it on accident/purpose (eeek). After a few years of pracitcing and development see from there what kind of investment you are willing to make. I played for around 9 years before I finally gave up on it, and I regret it to this day. I have two instruments that cost well over 5,000 and 10,000 that just sit in my close collecting dust.

I suggest getting a beginner violin. I have a Scherl & Roth. Its an excellent beginner violin. Then as your child's skills increase, invest more money into a decent instrument. Somewhere near 2,000 - 10,000 dollars.

K Becker, and Suzuki make some decent beginner violins for the <$400 range. YOu also always have the option to rent a violin for the time being. In my opinion, it's never worth it to spend more than $400 on a violin that is not full size because your kid would just grow right out of it.

I am thinking about getting a cheap violin from ebay that cost about $100, I know that is cheap and may be unacceptable for a lot of fiddler, but what I am thinking is
1. I don't know does he really like to learn violin?
2. Does he really going to learn it for long time? He is 4th grade student, I am afraid after the school is over in next June, he will never touch it again. But he seems really want to learn it now, I want to give him a chance.
3. He is not that kind of person that protect his stuff very well, he broke most of his toy and I hope he won't treat the violin as a toy.
4. Rental is available, it cost about $15-20/mo, in 1/2 year, it will cost more than a $100 violin.
5. He is short, he only able to hold a 1/2 size violin, I will need a 3/4 and full size when he grow.

Please, any opinion will help me decide what to do.

at that age, you will have to push him a lot to practice etc
if he can cope with it he'll keep on playing

(i've played for the past 13 years)
