Any Vinyl Sign Makers?

the condo complex where i live needs to get quite a few signs made up. i can create the illustrator or eps graphics and these are just black and white illustrations(maps, no parking signs, and certain other signs that would total about 50-75), but the sign makers around me want $300-$500 for a sign that is 40"x24" and a little less for smaller signs. is this normal? most of the signs we need are in the 12x18 sizes. or whatever aluminum comes already cut in with nice rounded corners.

like i said i am creating the graphic so all they need to do is cut it and and attach it to the aluminum. is this really that hard? i was thinking that the price was so high i may look for a 24" vinly cutter and do it myself, i think i could get a roland camm1 for ~$1700, does this sound like a normal price? also, how much is outdoor rated reflective vinyl and what other materials would one need to do this? is there a certain supply house that is better than others?

thanks in advance,
bob

It's too hard to price a job like that without specifics on exactly what material their using (Alumalite?), how many colors, and how intricate the signs are.

I own a sign biz.

all we want is an aluminum base with the vinyl. it is not too intricate for the signs, everything is either large text or square shapes, nothing like a graphic of a person or anything like that. some places did say alumalite but everybody was kind of vague. i don't know anybody in the sign making business so where would i go to learn about it? are there books at a library? as far as colors there would only be the aluminum which i would majority of signs, maybe a light brown for the larger map and then 1 color like a reflective red or green for the signs that are for no parking and speed limit. the background does not really matter to us what material it is as long as it is some kind of metal, so i am assuming aluminum would be the way to go.
