Any value in getting a regular XBOX?

I think he was referring to the original Xbox.

MS doesn't make them new anymore, so new you'll probably have to look to ebay. Gamestop sells used ones for like 130 i think. Softmoded for XBMC makes them very useful.

Plus used games for the first Xbox are dirt cheap. Some even as low as $1.99. Although I have a 360 I am having a blast playing old xbox games!

I was late to the Xbox party, but I finally got around to getting a modded Xbox in 2006. I don't know why I waited so long because it's one of my best purchases ever.

It gets used for a media center (XBMC) as well as playing emulators and Xbox games. Granted, new Xbox games aren't being developed, but the game library is huge and the games can be had for cheap.

OP,

You can find them pre-modded in the fs/ft forum with a good sized HDD for cheap. You can access it via FTP from your home network too, so it is easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy.

Dude, I just modded mine YESTERDAY. And I got my XBox when it first came out! The only regret I have, is that I should have done this a looong time ago. The thing is BAD and runs everything under the sun. 🙂

Dang right. Thanks to Gamestop's used Xbox games, I've been able to build up my Xbox library for an average of $3-$4 a game.

Since my main router is Belkin, I picked up an identical Belkin router off Ebay for $30 that serves as a wireless router. The Xbox plugs into it and I use it with XBMC to stream video and music from my desktop and server. I've been actually thinking of getting another modded Xbox for the living room for just this feature.

Although, I have to say I play the emulators the most, by far. My personal favorites are NeoGeo (Kawak-X), SNES (zsnexbox), and Genesis.

A modded XboX is one of the most useful devices in the gaming category. Emulation is very fun on that thing. Personally, I'm thinking of getting one to use as an FTP server...

And Killer Instinct 1 works beautifully on it too. 🙂 But yeah, no XBox mod is complete without XBMC. That thing is just GREAT!

Yep, a modded xbox combined with XBMC and emulators make it a great addition to your entertainment center.

If you don't plan on modding it though, I would steer clear of it. There weren't that many great games for it and Microsoft put it too an early death. You know a console is dead if there's no Madden coming out for it that year.

I just sold my modded Xbox because I wasn't getting any use from the MC functions. Good box, but I wasn't using it since I got my 360.

I have an Elite and have no intentions of selling my modded XBox. This thing is AWESOME!

My modded Xbox gets used more as a media player than for games. It gets turned on of the day and stays on all day until everyone goes to bed.
