"Hey, Joe Smith...........this is USPS here. Ummm.......we pretty much have the world (or at least the U.S.) by the balls, so we're kinda' thinkin' we really don't need to do jack sh!t about improving service to you. We're basically ***IT***, so unless you can figure out a way to create a company like ours & get rid of us.............well..........you can pretty much pound salt with the 3rd & 4th knuckle on either hand.....(we really don't care which hand)......and you might want to take a # for the opportunity at pounding salt in the salt pit 'cuz customer #12,359,232 is still trying to make something out of the salt & you'd be customer #982,235,625,693 in line for the salt pit. Anyway, all of us here at USPS would like to wish you a happy holiday!!"

Same with FedEX Ground.

FedEx ground uses the same system as express, at least all the packages i send ground (or home delivery) do.

at least our family is not the only ones who hate USPS tracking.

I mean I go to their site to request email updates and get a message the day after it delivers saying it just went though a checkpoint.

WTF? I don't even both using USPS tracking anymore.

Yep. Never been let down by Fed-Ex

USPS is partnered with FEDEX, they use commerical airliners?

I believe that they contracted DHL for international shipments?

Lets just say USPS mainly handles First Class Mail

That would be true if Fedex and UPS didn't exist.

No, USPS is not set up that way. Even their express mail, which has had tracking for years, is quite awful compared to UPS/Fedex. Tracking involves a lot of scanning, something that has never been adopted succesfully with USPS employees. It's not in their culture. That's the biggest hurdle, getting their employees trained to do the job right. There are plenty of 20-30 year veterans at USPS who are extremely resistant to any type of change, especially changes that means they have to do more work, which is exactly what a real-time tracking system would involve.

I think they don't do it to move stuff faster.

Fedex, UPS is more of a premium service, they must know where the package is.

USPS just sends it to the next available flight to the closest destination, then it gets resorted
with Priorty mail, they just give it to fedex? 😛
