Any upcoming plans for the Mac Mini to utilize the Core Duo?

Apple never tells untill they do an offical release. But there is no other CPU range they could be using.

Yes, but I was reading that Core Duo supplies are low, so they probably won't be seen for a while.

With limited supplies, all of Intel's partners were limited in what they could bring to market based on Core Duo, and when. That's why one of Intel's strongest partners, Dell, made their first Core Duo product a higher priced 17" model that would sell in lower quantities than a lower priced mainstream solution. And it's also a big reason why Apple's first Intel based products are what they are, and why we are also not finding the Core Duo in a revamped $400 Mac mini today.

I've also heard of a project called "Kaleidoscope" which is supposed to be a media center/Mini setup. I'd assume, if it comes to pass, that it will be an Intel box. If you're interested in the current Mini, I have a modding guide here:

Also, you can hack Front Row to work on the Mini. I have it running on my G4 Cube, it's pretty sweet. Here's a link to the hack:

I already have a current mac mini which i sold to my sister a few months ago. Once it's available in dual-core, I'm gonna have a new toy. 🙂

Haha...Celeron Core Duo, shared 256k l2. Still slower than your parent's 600mhz P3 😀

Isn't there a core solo version of the Yonah? I expect Apple to use those because the Mac Mini is Apple's low budget model. A core solo still should provide customers with better performance than the G4. All we know for sure is that like every Mac, the Mini will get its x86 transition this year.

Looking at the product cycle (here) it's likely to get upgraded in Q2, but then again there's a very small probability that Apple will use another PPC processor.
