It seems to me Apple is missing an ultraportable line, something less than 4 pounds. Is Apple considering such a notebook? This is something that Apple sorely lacks comparing to IBM (Thinkpad X60), Dell (Latitude D420) and other Windows vendors. I am thinking something in the line of (not the Pro version though):

1. Sub 4 lbs, lighter better, say around 3.2 lbs would be nice
2. Intel Core Duo ULV or Core 2 Duo
3. At least 4 hours battery (battery shouldn't stick out)
4. 12.1" or 13.1" glossy widescreen (no smaller than 12.1")
5. Better Intel, ATI, or NVIDIA graphics (better than GMA950, but not necessary)
6. Integrated optical not necessary, but it's a plus

7. Two-button touch pad ;-).

Your number 7 wont happen. There is no reason to have 2 buttons on the touchpad since you use keys to modify your clicking. Ctrl+Click is secondary click (usually associated with the right mouse button). Apple+Click is another click that is usually associated with the middle mouse button. So instead of 2 mouse buttons that perform different functions, and are also located in different locations, they use one button so you dont have to worry about what you are clicking on.

2 finger right click and 2 finger scrolling is like a gift from the gods when you get used to it. having to actually right click or use lesser scrolling on my wife's dell is annoying when i'm forced to use it.

people have been hoping for a 12" g4 powerbook replacement in this new line of laptops, most of them wishing for a pro version with dedicated graphics.

You aren't lying about the 2 finger scrolling! Every time I use one of my classmates computers, especially the ones where they have the dedicated scroll area on the side of the trackpad, I go nuts. How hard is it to duplicate what Apple has done? Are they embarrassed to shamelessly copy apple or what?

I wouldnt mind an ultra-portable, or at least, smaller MacBook Pro, but I would worry about heat issues, as well as price. It would have to be less than a 15" MBP, but from most of what I have seen, as you go smaller, the price goes up as compared to a similiarly spec'ed larger laptop, not down.

there have been rumors floating around that apple will eventually release some sort of super subnote that weighs 2 something pounds using a flash disk drive. of course it would probably be really expensive, but i wouldnt doubt seeing it happen sometime this year.
