random question... in my neverending quest to GTFO of New Jersey, I've got a potential job offer working for a US company in their london office (same company I'm working for currently... I haven't applied yet, but I'm pretty sure it'd be mine if I wanted it). it's definitely a move I'd be interested in making (especially after my bender last week of watching every episode of Little Britain), but I've got no clue what expenses are like across the sea.

what do you think the minimum salary necessary would be? not really living in London proper, which I've heard is like the most expensive city in the world, but at least within commuting distance.

it'd be great to have working in a foreign country on my resume (not that the UK is really that foreign, but still... my eventual goal is a job with the state department someday and showing a willingness to relocate might be a boon for me), but I don't want it badly enough to, like, have to live in a roach-infested ghetto and commute 5 hours/day or something.

I know RichUK, Nevik, and DivideByZero are all from various parts of the UK (None from London though). You might want to ask them.
But it seems like most of these questions are best answered by your employer.

Personally, I say, do it! This is one of the few chances you will have in your life where the consequences for making a mistake are not terribly dire. Sounds like a great opportunity.

Over £20,000 minimum if you want to live in the London area. My friend lives in London and he refuses to go for anything sub £20k.

I live in London and have done for the past 2 years. Originally from Wales. As above the minimum you would really go for is around £20,000. On that little though you would be almost deffinately be house sharing unless you choose to live way outside on the edge or in one of the more dodgy areas :)

I live in a 2 bedroom flat towards Wimbledon which means it takes me about 10 mins to get into the centre of London. I pay £1050 a month.

Any questions you wants answered ask away.
