I have an Intel 810e integraded graphics ship.

My system:
PIII 850 Mhz
256 SDRAM

Now, with a decent graphics card I should at least be able to play games such as Return to Castle Wolfenstein in 800*600 resolution.
Some benchmarks with my system
RtCWolfenstein:
640*480 Vertex Mode, all low, 20-22 Fps
800*600, lightmap, medium settings, 18-20fps

Pretty choppy (especially when it gets to around 15-18 fps outdoors).
I'm stuck with this damn card, does anybody have any ideas on
a) how to tweak my graphics card
or
b) make such games run acceptable?
I can't get a new one at this time :(
Any help is really apreciated.

Although some of the latest driver sets from Intel improve performance considerably to the point that you should be able to run any modern Q3 based game at 640x480 high geometry/medium textures, you have to remember that the 810 graphics core is 5 years now and has only 4mb of dedicated memory to work with. Getting a new card might be more affordable than you think though, you could easily triple your performance by buying a $15 TNT2 Vanta/M64 off ebay, or a motherboard with AGP for $25 and a Geforce MX200 for another $25

I'm not so sure with the drivers.

Using Sandra, under Video System/Adapter it shows: IntelR 82810E Graphics Controller. Is that my graphics card?

I've looked on intel.com before, but there is so much information and different hardware components with similiar names that I don't know what to choose. Can anyone please help me? And after downloading a new driver, can I just install it? I heard that you have to delete old drivers or something.

Any help is fine : |

Indeed it is.

Intel driver installations are fairly simplistic and straight forward. Just double click the installation file and let it install over top of your current driver revision.

I've no idea what OS your running so I cannot give you a direct link to the drivers, but if you go here and choose your OS, it will give you the option to download numerous driver revisions.
Simply choose the latest revision which as of this date is 6.6

Ok, I successfully downloaded the driver. It runs a little better now (Wolfenstein).
At high point 36 fps, usually around 25 and sometimes 15-16 (especially outside) : \

If I could just sqeeze out around 5 additional fps it'd run just fine. But I already use the lowest settings :(
