i have an RCA that turns on by itself. constantly. If I unplug it, it won't come back on with the press of the button. it eventually comes on by itself. After that, I can turn it on or off at will with the button, but it'll still come on randomly throughout the day.

If I could get a drawing of the circuitry or a service manual it would be easier to maybe bypass something to get it back under my control, not sure about how to find these, though.
