Any truth behind possible S-IPS in Rev 04 Dell 2407

Asking just to make sure. Have seen this rumor here and on HardForums. Saw a few times that there is a new panel lottery on the Rev 04 Dell 2407 and that one could get either an S-PVA or S-IPS. Someone even wrote that a Dell rep confirmed this.

I dismissed these rumors, but now I find the Dell Monitors Page on Wikipedia lists the 2407 with a possible S-IPS.

It should not be too complicated to check the factory menu to know if some of those 2407's are in fact S-IPS

EDIT: Considering discussion in this thread, I removed the reference to S-IPS availability for 2407WFP on the above Wikipedia page.

I highly doubt it.

Can someone with a 2407wfp A04 get into the service menu and check? Cause if this is true, I am returning this Gateway.

if it involves spending money, i won't normally quote Wkipedia. but if it's true, i may have to go ahead and buy that monitor after all...

If it's true I get one immediatly. Returned my 2405 same day so I can right away... hmm maybe I'll just order one anyway and see since Dell has awesome return policy. How can I be guaranteed this Rev4? Also can you link these rumors?

LGPhilips does have a new 24" IPS but the only monitor I know of which has it is the $1400 NEC LCD2490WUXi and only corporte customers can get it ATM.

I dont think its true.

I doubt Dell would spend the money to put a more expensive panel in there and not jack up the price.

No S-IPS found so far. A few rumors Dell might actually switch to that new Samsung 24" TN. Overall the 2407WFP Rev. A04 is a solid choice although early reports indicate the input lag is as bad or worst than the Revs. A01-3. Someone over in that A04 thread compared an A03 and A04 in clone mode side-by-side and said the A03 was slightly faster in terms of input lag.

I still keep an eye on that thread though, since I may get a 2nd 24" to pair up with my Gateway. Figure I might as well since I still haven't received my refund credit for the 2407 I returned about 5 weeks ago.

Hey Chizow, have you noticed input lag on your Gateway? My 24" Gateway feels just as fast as my S-IPS 2007wfp, but maybe I'm not looking for it in the right places.

No I haven't, which was a big reason I kept it instead of continuing the 24" panel crusade. I did notice it a bit with the 2407 along with "morphing". Its not quite tearing (Vsync enabled), just textures don't move uniformly and seem as if they have animation when they shouldn't. The Gateway's ODC probably helps prevent both, but in return results in some smearing with certain color/contrast schemes.

I mentioned to Jarred a better comparison in his latest review would've been the Gateway vs. Dell 2407 instead of the 2405 vs. 2407. Not sure if he'll revise his review or incorporate it into future reviews, but I'd still like to see round-ups rather than reviews building on reviews. It seems he's having a lot of trouble getting the latest revisions for his tests (Gateway NOV, Dell Rev. A01, 3007 non-HC etc.), so even if he does a round-up it won't be that accurate to what's available on the market today.

I hope they would have the decency to use another model number. :frown:

Yes, I have already googled E247WFP, E248WFP, E249WFP without conclusive results. :D

It's only a matter of time before we get confirmation of a 24-incher using the new Samsung TN panel

The jury is still out on the Viewsonic 2435WM
Can't discount a Samsung 246BW either

But what I want is not a bigger TN monitor, but rather an affordable S-IPS monitor in the 22 to 24 inches range
