i've got an old and outdated system, but all i can really afford for an upgrade path is a new video card, i'm looking at this 9800 GT ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500113 ) and i currently have a nf4x board ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813136162 ) and a antec 550w psu ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817103931 ) with this be ok?

i know i lose some top end due to the pci-e 1.0 limit on my board but what i really want is for the card to handle the video decoding on h.264 files, as right now my cpu is hitting 100% on 1080p files with a 6800gs, and a bit of gaming.

a 9800gt or any other decent would be a waste if you are actually wanting to play modern games. that single core cpu doesnt even the minimum requirements to play many newer games and having only 1gb of system ram will be a horrible experience in most cases.

as long as the gaming is on par with about what i get with the 6800gs i'd be fine, i just really want the video decoding that the new card would offer.

then just get the cheapest modern gpu you can find. I am sure somebody can give you a decent suggestion for a card that will fit the bill.
