I'm also running SB2600k on Maximus iv extreme with the vertex 3 240 no problem. I should note that my firmware on the vertex 3 is 2.06 on windows 7 sp1 x64.
When I got the vertex 3 I read somewhere that the marvell 9182 (not 9128) controller was good but not as good as intel's... just to confirm, it is slower but not by much from 20 to 60 mb/s max in read/write.
And for those having trouble with freezing on intel chipset all I can say is when I installed the rapid storage software that's when I noticed freezing... but ran benchmarks on ssd for good measure. the difference between native msahci driver and intel's rapid storage software where very negligible. few mb here and there...
Uninstalled the rapid storage software and now back to ludicris speed! ( Light speed to slow?!? ) ( lol love spaceballs )
And for those who are waiting, let me tell you of all the drives I've owned this one takes the cake!
The intel x-25m g2 160's in raid 0 were what I was using before I step'd up to the revodrive x2 240...
Dollar for dollar the revo vs the vertex 3 there is no comparison... though I will say that it might be the asus boards ( 3 to be exact that all performed identical in so many pci-e ports that I was wishing for better performance ) that I suspect were holding back that beast.
Hands down this vertex 3 feels more snappy in my system than any other drive to date.
