Any Tribes players using a GeForce or a GeForce mxII or a Radeon?

Tribes plays great on my Voodoo3 2000, I recently bought a TNT Ultra2 32mb AGP card for one of my gaming boxes.I did'nt expect the Ultra to much better in Tribes but was surprised to see that it just plain sucked.

Most other games the TNT out performed the voodoo but in tribes
my V3 averages 75fps & the Ultra was low 30's & laggy as hell.

I was thinking about picking up on one of the good deals I've seen on the GeForce or Radeon cards lately.I just don't want end up with crappy performance in Tribes again.So let me know how these cards perform in Tribes, also any idea if Tribes2 will have better support for the NVida chipsets?

Thanks,Toro

Ahhh Tribes, gotta love it even though its an older game. And I say older because when it came out its main graphics support or Glide, ie. 3Dfx, was still pretty standard fare. So yeah, your TNT isnt gonna pull any kind of spectacular frame rates. In fact, just about any OGL based video card wont dazzle you with this game. I know people with GTS cards that cant pull more than 50 outside with only a moderate amount of action at >800x600 resolutions. I myself am running a Radeon 64, and one of these days Ill get the new w2k drivers with better Frame rates to work, but until then, Ill be getting better FPS with my diamond monster (v2 based 42 FPS av) than my Radeon (34 FPS av) simply because Tribes is VERY glide optimized.

Tribes wont even run on my W2K GeForce boxes. It locks up after about two or three minutes of the game. Are you guys runnin W2K Pro?

I was hoping that if the GeForce cards did'nt work to good, that the Raedeons would do much better.I think you answered my question,I'll stick with Voodoo for now. Lets hope that Tribes2 supports OGL better.

Kouklathecat,I'm using Win98. Does it lock up with both the Full version & the Demo?I'm sure you have but make sure you have the latest patch.

Thanks,Toro

Bring down the console(button above Tab key) & type showfps();
hit enter,hit the console button again & it will show you in the upper left hand corner.

go with voodoo now? tribes 2 is only a little bit away, and is currently being built for opengl and opengl only. If the voodoo's opengl support is what you would call lacklustre, dont bother getting one now, because future driver revisions just wont happen.
