Any Track&Field people here?

I ran the 100, 200, 110 highs, and threw shot. I wish I cuold have played baseball in the spring but I sucked. Remember how cool it was at track meets with like 6-7 other schools?

You either speak of League prelims/finals, or of invitationals. But yeah, i'm running track right now too. I mainly run the 100 and 200, since my relay team members dropped out of track 🙁

Actually it's been 13 yrs since HS for me. I was just seeing these hs kids running today and thought about the fun that's all. BTW what you run the 100m in? my best was 11.5.

ah... The running days... Man, you're a runner AND you threw? You have to be better at one of those things... 🙂

I was a cross-country runner, 100-200, mile relay, long jumper/triple guy. Yea, those meets were fun. Our track team was a joke though. Our girls long jump team was about as big as any other schools entire long jump team... Oh well, some cute ones though. 😉 They were just there for the right to put it on their transcript.

Cross-country, ahh... Now there was a REAL running team. We still had slackers galore, but we all did the runs and we did them right. Coach was a b1tch and many quit because of him, but from just putting together a team in many years, we were in CIF 3 years later. I was part of the group of seniors that led the way and earned our school the first cross-country trophy in ages.... Oh the memories.... Oh well, next year the coach is likely leaving, and the group of freshmen/sophemores that we trained is off to college and all the ones we got left are as green as summer. At least we had our moment in the sun.

What pissed me off is that we never got any respect though. Our football team was probably the worse in league and they'd get like 20 minutes of introducing the varsity team while we'd get a mention if at that. Our basketball team too... haha! After runs, we'd often see the JV team practicing in the outdoor courts because the varsity team was in the gym. We'd call em up for a game and smoke em, haha. Yea, that means our basketball team sucked too. We played the varsity team a couple times and they were better, but we'd just run up and down the court and without subs, there were plenty of easy points towards the end.

EDIT: For posting on ATOT at 2:30 in the morning.

<< Yup. Did long jump, high jump, triple jump >>

I never understood how you guys did it. I could NEVER get any vertical in my jumps. I could barely clear 4'5".

EDIT: Brings back painful memories of landing with the bar under my back...

ahh, i feel ya. our football team was OFFICIALLY branded as the WORST TEAM in the whole district. I mean it was on the newspaper.. that's how bad they are. The 4 years I was there, their record was like 0-54 or something like that. No wins. And during my 3 years in track & field and cross country, we were first in our league and kicked everyone's butt in our district. Yet, we rarely got any respect.

Hey, you're doing the exact same events as me. I also do 100m or 4x100m relay.. can only do one or the other since we are limited to 4 events per person 🙁

It's been a while, but I remember competing in the 110/330 hurdles, high jump, long jump and triple jump. I >wasn't< that great, but my school's track team wasn't that great with the "speed" type events. We kicked A$$ in the long-distance stuff, though.

But man, those meets were definitely fun. We'd run off in the middle to go get some Jojo's and eat them while waiting for our turn in the events. Of course, the memories of running laps until I collapsed and felt like puking aren't that nice. 🙂

I was a sprinter and threw not to uncommon on small team like ours. But a ran better than I threw..

Stupid is'nt it? I wrestled too which is the same time as basketball and all you'd see in the crowd at the meets were mom dad and girlfriend if you where lucky. 🙁

Fortuantly our track coach was also the football coach so he "encouraged" all of us to go out for track so at least we got some respect and also were pretty good in the power events like spinting, vaulting, throwing etc.

in high school i ran anything from the 400, to the 3200 depending on the year. i was best at the 800. that was like 2 years ago though right now i'm training for my first marathon which i hope to run next weekend if everything goes well

Gah! You sprinters aren't true runners! Real men run the mile and 2 mile in track. 🙂

I'm a senior in High School, been running track for three years. I started out as a sprinter, but when I ran Cross Country in the Fall, I discovered that distance is much more fun and much more of a challenge. In sprinting, its all about who can move their legs the fastest. With distance, its about strategy, pacing yourself, and making yourself give that extra kick at the end ehen you've been running all out for 1200m or more.

And of course the 2 mile is without a doubt the most grueling race of all. Not only is it monotonous; eight laps around a track gets pretty boring, but on a hot day, you're staying out there for 11, 12 minutes, and the heat is just radiating off the track. It awful, but it feels so good.

BTW, my school's CRoss Country team has gone undefeated the past 6 years I believe. Every year we've gone 7-0 and won Sectionals. Our track team is pretty good, but the bigger schools are better.

My fastest time so far is 11.47, i'll have to see what it is when i get a chance to run on all weather. Only if our training schedule was persistent though... :frown:

This is an old thread, but oh well.
I run XC, Winter and Spring Track. I made it into the states meet this year in the 300 Hurdles, which i was really happy about, because im only a sophmore. I didnt get the qualifying time(44.0), but i made the prelims w/ a time of 44.4, so i still get to run in it. I also run the 200(24.8), and the 400(56.8). I think XC is probably the most fun, even though im better at shorter stuff. My best 5K was around 19:45, so i guess thats decent. Anyway, i just got back from the last practice of Spring Track..... we went on a creek run, even though it was a little chilly. btw, i live in DE, so the states meet qualifying times are probably slower than most states. Anybody else who runs should post their times on here🙂

Durn, i ran an 11.3 automatic in the 100, and 23.2 in the 200. My training blows, in the past 3 years of my high school years, the first track coach dropped out because he didnt like the school. He was replaced with some hillbilly yokel from alabama who didn't know what he was doing. The year after that the yokel left, and we were without a team. This year, we have a coach, but he doesn't know how to train. He wanted to work us hard after a meet for god's sakes!! Plus, we had NO strength work in pre-season. And we wouldn't have done a single set of sprint intervals if i didn't clue him in. And by then, finals were only a week away, much too close for intervals to be effective. But this summer, i'll be training with the original coach that left my school, as he coached our team to championships many times.

It just sucks knowing that you *can* run faster, but it's the training (or lack thereof) that is holding you back. My coach said i should be able to hit 11 flat by the beginning of season, off of strength alone, without ANY speed training. I'll be looking forward to next year's season 🙂 Watch out for this asian dood next year for all you dood's in CIF division 2!! hehe.

I ran track and CC in high school, ran CC my freshman year in college until my arch decided to rip in half 🙁

I ran a 5:06 mile, and an 11:00 minute 3200. What's sad is getting 2nd place in the conference 2 mile, and still getting lapped by a guy that runs a 9:45 two mile.

And yes, my high school football team one 1 game out of 9 and last in the conference, while we were state ranked. Guess who got more respect?

:disgust:

Whoa, who dug this thread back up.

My best 1 mile time ever was 5:12 end of junior year. I never ran the mile again becaues I jacked my ankle up during the 2nd meet of XC during the fall and decided to quit running/sports because my body was getting banged up. My 3 mile was 18:20. Long jump was 18'8". Triple jump was 37'3".

I only did sprints my freshman year and ran a 12.2. Sophemore and junior year, I did some 1 mile relays and my 1/4 mile was about 59.1.

<== out of shape now.

Did track my Frosh and soph year of HS, did 100,200, relays, and Pole Vault, but really blew at it. Fastest 100 time was 11.7 as a soph, woulda doneit last year and this but broke my leg and I am still recovering from it. I wanna play something up in college but I dunno, lotta competion and that leg injury really screwed me over.

HS - did a variety of events. primary were polevault, triple jump, and long jump. on occasion i did javelin, 400m, 4x400 relay, 4x100 relay, and shot put

college - pole vault, triple jump, and long jump

dang i miss track. this is my first year out of college and the first time i havent done track in 10 years.

damn.. someone just dug this thread back up again. well, since it's back up again.. i just went back to check the league records i set during my senior year and they are still there! woohoo! 🙂 hehe.. actually it was pretty easy to set a league record back then since they started the new league during my senior year. the records i set were long jump and triple jump with 23' and 46'5", respectively. doubt they are going to last though, heard there's a new kid closing in on them.

Ok, since we are comparing times...
I ran the mile in 4:43 in HS, and can still do it around 5:20.
As far as the 1/2 went, only a 2:09 there. The longer the better baby.😉
I miss cross country, we were a wild bunch of guys.
Anyone here race against Del Oro High School (couple of years ago)? Bet I ran against someone here before.

-"And yes, my high school football team one 1 game out of 9 and last in the conference, while we were state ranked. Guess who got more respect?"
I know the feeling... Our quarterback went to Stanford, and just got drafter to the Panthers... We got no attention.

Del Oro High School cross country team? Where is that? My high school was in Southern California and we went to a lot of invitationals. I'm pretty sure if you're in Cross-country, you heard of Mt. SAC. That was a great course, wasn't it? 🙂

Mt. Sac, yes, all cross country runners have heard of it/been there. 😉
Great course though, no. Best course I was ever at was the Stanford Invitational. We actually ran on the golf course. Fastest course I've ever been on.
Del Oro is in Nor Cal, an hour or so from Davis towords Reno.
