Any Toyota Prius owners?

I'm thinking about trading in my 2001 325i for a Prius. Could you tell me what you like and don't like about your Prius? Thank you.

What type if driving do you do most?

If it is stop and go, a hybrid is a viable choice, if it's a lot of highway you are better off just going with a Civic or corolla.

i want a Prius!

Prius is good for city driving... its decent for highway too but it is built for city driving (constantly stopping and going). its not underpowered or wimpy, it can pull its own weight on the highway. i drove a 2001 model before and it was decent. had fun messing around with the braking system and all. maintenance would probably be a PITA though, but i dont own one so i wouldnt know!

larry david has one and loves it. I want to get one a few years from now when i need to buy a car. i don't know if the technology is reliable yet. it's also not worth it financially. the money you save in gas compared to a small civic or something is not worth the extra cost

most honda, hyundai and toyota models get 30mpg (i dont shop american cars so i dont know about their mileage but i know ford focus gets ~30mpg)

i drive a corolla and get the rated ~38mpg on highway (drove 300 miles on a a little more than half a tank, which i can reasonably assume to be ~7.5 gallons)

Are you serious? You bought a BMW and you cant afford the gas? I suggest you keep your BMW unless it been into the shops alot.

The cost of owning a hybrid has yet to add up.

Also, I think they going to give tax break for those who buy hybrid. you might want to wait for that to become the law.

I have heard that the listed MPG is far in excess of what people get in the real world. What mileage do you actually get?

my dad has a prius.

hes had it for 6 months. in that time he has gotten an average MPG of 48.7

mostly he drives on the freeway to go to work

The center console thing on the prius is fricken awesome. Plus, there's a built in minigame where you try to maximize your mpg (it displays your current mpg!)

real world driving consists of pedal mashing and driving way above the speed limit. that is why people dont get the listed MPG. you're not going to get the rated MPG if you hammer your gas pedal everytime the light turns green.

My friend just got a 2005 hybrid prius and that thing is sick. It got 50mpg driving to yosemite and that has some steep roads that kill your gas mileage usually. Overall the car is very slick and comfortable too, with lots of nice little gadgets.

My parents friend has had one for just over 15k miles now and has averaged 45mpg. If you do more highway driving you are better off with a diesel. The prius does have a lot of interior room and decent pickup though.

Sorry but I wouldn?t be happy with only 75 BHP to play with. Fifth gear did a economy run with the prius, a 1.6 petrol car and a 1.6 diesel. The prius came last doing about 32 MPG, I think they did a city run then a motorway run. If economy is your purpose get a diesel. Plus I am not too fond of the prius?s looks.

it will not be worth it in terms of making up the money

my brother has a 2001 mitsubishi galant V6. he was considering a new VW Jetta TDI, but to make up the cost in increased efficiency, he'd have to have the jetta for something like 13 years, not including standard maintenance, emergency repairs, etc.
