UPDATE2: Got my hydroedges installed 2 weeks ago and just got back from Florida. 2600 miles and I'm very happy with these tires. They are quiet and confortable tires. I'm happy with these tires and would recommend them. I saw a few comments on the TireRack site said they were noisy but I haven't found that to be the case.

Total was a tad over 600 installed with lifetime balance/rotate.

UPDATE: Went with the HydroEdge®. Thanks for everyone's input. I didn't have a lot of time to kick this one around.

Thanks again for the help.

2006 Pontiac Montana miniva.

Has P225/60R17 on it now.

I've decided to purchase from Sam's b/c my other car has Sam's tires and they rotate/balance every 6k miles.

going with the three cheapest options gets the field down to three tires:

P225/60R17 98S Goodyear Integrity @ 103.26 / tire
P225/60R17 98T BW Bridgestone Turanza® EL42 @ 119.56 / tire
P225/60R17 98T Michelin® HydroEdge® @ 137.13/ tire
P225/60R17 98T GOODYEAR ASSURANCE COMFORTRED BW @ 137.76 / tire

I'm leaning towards the cheapest option, but I'm open to spending a little more if it makes sense. These tires come with a 4 yr warranty (thru Sam's) and I'll average about 12,000 miles / year on them, only the fourth tire listed above would provide warranty beyond yr 4 (based on 12k miles/year).

I'd like something quiet and decent traction.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

What is each tire rated for mileage wise?

Not that it really matters, I have never made the milage each claims, but that is good to base your purchase on. I just go for the cheapest tire. Almost all the tires produced are own by a handfull of companies, no matter the name.

Every tire store gives you free rotation. I don't think I'd trust Sam's Club to do anything to my vehicle.

Get a good brand tire. Cheap ones can end up being noisy and annoying

yeah that is how i always approached tires purchases in the past.... however, for the three tires at the top of the list, SAM's documentation provides a 4 year warranty but no milage warranty.

If you don't ever really drive hard, you can probably get any of them, but the HydroEdge and the ComforTred are rated much higher than the other two options by consumers at TireRack.

Out of the tires that you picked, the HydroEdge and the Goodyear ComforTred are the only ones that I'd recommend. However, those prices seem high for the type of tire that you're looking for. If you're trying to stay closer to $100 a tire, there are plenty of tires in that range that get excellent reviews such as the Kuhmo Solus KR21 (tirerack has them for $81 each). Even a tire like the Pirelli P4 which will be nicer than any of the ones you listed should come out to be cheaper than 137.76 / tire installed.

mooseracing - Have you ever not bought the cheapest tires? (no offense intended, it's a serious question) There's a huge difference between the cheapest tire, and tire that's the best value in road noise, traction and tread life. There are tons of affordable tires on the market, but buying strictly the cheapest tire without comparing it with other tires in the same price range is sheer stupidity (imo.)

I just bought a set of 5 BF Goodrich All Terrains. They cost $140 each + $18 for the road hazard warranty. I

Ended up costing about $950. I could have saved $400 by buying General Grabbers (which I have experience with), but assuming a 50,000 mile life, that comes out to $8 extra per 1000 miles. At my current 18mpg, I spend ~$200 per 1000 miles on gas. $8 compared to other costs is worth it for good performance.

Those listed in the OP are all well known brands and for the price you should expect really good tires, but I have no idea which is best.

I was referring to the tires he posted. But yes when I go shopping I do to an extent as most tires I get start out at around 90 or more.. I needed tires cheap this winter for the front, so I went to Walmart (only place within 45 mins to get tires) and spent $96 a tire for the Goodyear Integrity's, cheapest they had.

I'm getting ready to get rears now, Bridgestones are the cheapest I could get around me at $94 a tire with a 65k warranty.

For my truck I bought the cheapest 35" tire in a 15" rim, was $165 a piece, Mickey Thompson Baja MTX's and have lasted over 30k of abuse including a railroad spike.

I'm looking for 37's currently the cheapest I can find around me is around $220 a tire for some Interco's. I like Interco so I will be going with them.

On my bike I spent $190 for one rear tire. It is 140mph+ rated. I didn't cheap out there as it was a little more important.

For a car or vehicle that sees no hauling there is nothing wrong with cheap tires. I can't even think or have seen a regular tire, not speciality, rated below 30k miles. Who cares about a little road noise, it's not that much even. You want some road noise you can ride in my truck with Super Swamper Boggers on. Not to mention most cars are quiet enough inside you will barely hear a tire.

The Hydroedges on our Ody had great wet traction, but only lasted 60K instead of the 80K they are warranted. You have to bump up the pressure over recommended to make them last, with a corresponding decrease in ride comfort. Still, 60K is not bad and I will probably replace them with Hydros again in the next month or two.
