Any tips when going from GF3 (Nvidia) to a 9700 (ATi)?

is there anything i should know before i install an ATI card into a system that had a Nvidia card on it before? i heard that some of the Nvidia drivers stick around or something??? how do i completely clean my system of any Nvidia drivers? also, is it a floppy connector on the 9700 (or any other of that ATI gen. cards) for power?

Completely uninstall the drivers for your GF3, in add/remove programs. Then use a tool like Det. Destroyer to completely uninstall the registry entries for the Dets. You can look in www.nvnews.net for directions on how to do this (in the forums)

Then make sure that power connector is connected in with your PSU on the 9700. Install the cats and the cntrl panel. You might wanna stick with the 3.1 cats if you play CS, or any Halflife based games, because there is a problem with 3.2 cats.

Then crank up the AA, and AF in the cntl panel after your reboots. Have fun! Also your PSU needs to be at least 300watt to push that card. 9700 won't run 3D aps without the external power connector.

Eh, I just pulled it out and put in my 9800 Pro, installed Cats/Control Panel...worked fine on W2K.

thats not really a safe way to do things...but whatever floats yur boat.

I just uninstalled the drivers through 'add and remove programs', then used regedit to clean out references to my Nvidia card. Had to be careful since I have an Nvidia chipset. The Radeon 9700 is working great.

I had lots of trouble going from a Ti200 to a 9700. If you have the time I would reinstall.

Same here.
What you should do is;
1) Backup all your stuff, and download the latest ati drivers, and put in backup
2) Format your windows drive
3) re-install windows.
4) Install the ATI drivers.
5) Play some games in high res
6) Place cushion on surface (be it desk or floor) below your jaw, it`ll prevent any pain when your jaw hits the floor.
