Any tips or tricks for getting good concerts/sports tickets?

I am planning on seeing the Mekka Tour when it comes to Chicago on 9/25. I also want to buy tickets for the cubbies if they make the play-offs. What's the best way to get good seats for those events? Can I get them before they go on sale to the general public?

I know one good trick they do here in Chicago is to hire bums/hobos/homeless people to stand in line and purchase tickets.... hmm....

Uh, this is not exactly Kosher but you could call up and ask for handicapped seating...they usually go empty even at big events, and the stadium has to keep them reserved for "the handicapped." Maybe you can take a cane into the stadium or something.

My last gf did this all the time...she saw a lot of good shows that way.

I get hook-ups on most tickets for concerts. So I either pay next to nothing or I pay nothing.

That's what i used to get janet tix... had 3 computers going at once and just keep refreshing until at least one gets through

But someone else said, just go to ticketmaster.com when the tickets go on sale, and be prepared to hit reload many, many times if it's a popular event. That's how I've gotten playoff and worldseries tix for the yanks the last few years.
