Any tips for travel in Thailand

I am heading to Thailand this week. I will be spending two days in Bangkok, one day in Chian Mi, and several days trekking in the hills. Anyone have any tips for travel in Thailand, and places I should definately see while in Bangkok and Chiang Mi?

Sweet! My mother was born near Chiang Mai. I'll be going there in 2007 for a couple weeks. I've never been to the motherland, but I hope you have fun. I've heard pretty much all the signs are in both Thai and English (at least in the towns and cities). Driving in Bangkok I've been told is generally not recommended for foreigners.

in bangkok i remember going to the king's palace, which was pretty freaking cool to see.

i just did a lot of shopping.
