I have a Technics 5 disc CD player with spinning platter loader. Lately longer CDs have been crapping out toward the end. These CDs play fine on other players. I suspect that dirt/fuzz/cat hair is stuck in the player, maybe jamming in behind the head on the outer edge. Any tips on what to touch or not touch if I open the player up for cleaning?

I cleaned the laser with a q tip as recommended, thanks. I also spent about a half hour plucking cat hair out of various parts of the player. There was fuzz lodged at the end of the rail carrying the laser so I removed that. It still has slight problems toward the end of long CDs but is much improved. I guess if I'm going to have cats I need to move the CD player to someplace that is more than four inches off the floor.

Some things I read when trying to revive a old Luxman you may want to consider/try.

Don't use compressed air pointed directly at the eye of the laser. Apparently it can damage the sensitive membrane covering it.

Skipping problems can sometimes be due to old grease drying on the slide the laser assembly moves up and down on. If this is the case cleaning a reapplication could help.
