Any thoughts\reviews of the NEC LCD2170NX?

I'm looking for a great LCD monitor in the 600ish range that supports 1600x1200. Everyone seems to love the GX2 but it's a widescreen monitor and I don't want to fiddle with my games to force a wide screen rez (the games I play don't support it- BF2 in particular). So, I'm back to looking for a 16x12 gaming quality screen. Currently I'm using a ViewSonic VP201, and while I am (was) happy with it, it's a little too dark. Plus it seems to be on it's way out so it's time for an upgrade.

I took a look at xtknights LCD buyer's guide but he's got nothing on there in the 1600x1200 range (only 1650, and 1280).. plus I don't see any mention of the 2170, which I hear is a pretty good LCD.

Lol, too much yakking. Anyone use this monitor?

I list the VP2030b (1600x1200) in the gaming section. It's about $475. Compare the two here:

The NEC looks decent as well though I'm not sure if it's truly worth the extra. I have no doubt it's just as good if not better.

Yeah, I saw that one in your review XT, but it was under the decent speed section, as opposed to the max. I do a lot of fast twitch gaming so the quicker and more responsive the screen is, the better. That's why I kinda glossed over the 203.

I really don't want to have to go wide screen, but people really do love that nec GX2..

The VP2030b is no 6 ms. TN but neither is the NEC. When you look at the response time images it's a toss-up as to which would be faster, but the VP2030b has a P-MVA, which are generally faster than S-PVAs (2170NX). That said, the 2170NX will deliver a higher contrast and slightly less tinting at wide viewing angles. The NEC 20WMGX2 has an AS-IPS screen and it's quite ahead of these two VA LCDs.

From I've seen the screenies of BF2 at 1680 don't look too bad at all. it might not be such a big deal as I thought.

It looks fine. The top and bottom get slightly cropped but I don't feel it has hampered my playing.

I got mine today and it was DOA so I can't tell for sure.. but sitting next to my 20.1 16x12 shows just how short the widescreen really is. That doesn't bother you when you game?
