I can apply my costco cash back check to bring this down to 449.00. All I need is a tower to replace my old win xp / dual core conroe 2.4 gig. Not interested in games. Will be used for productivity / IBM Maximo / spread sheets / excell / payroll / internet.

Looks really excessive to me, for what you plan to do with it. You should be just fine with an i3, or even a Pentium G-something. You don't need any graphics card beyond the on-chip graphics.

How would you feel about getting a cheap desktop like this and getting inside it to add more RAM and an SSD yourself? Edit: Which is not to say that it wouldn't be usable as-is; an SSD and more RAM would just make it much better for your uses.

update on this..I went ahead and orderd the dell xps 8700 / i74770 from costco. It showed up with a few pleasant enhancements. The costco web site said it would ship with a 1 T drive and 12 gig ram. System properties indicate it has 2T drive and 16 gig ram which agrees with the spec info on the dell shipping box. Costco / dell also gave me the choice of Kaspersky or McCaffe V checker so I went with Kaspersky. Just completed downloading win 8.1 and learning the ins / outs of that. So hats off to Costco / Dell for one great deal! I couldn't build it that cheap. Costco extends the warranty for a total of 2 years. I also used my AMX card which I'm told also enhance the warranty. So all this gets me out of my wxp / conroe box and should keep me up to date for atleast 5 years or more (got more then that out of conroe), The old box still runs well. I built it on a Gigabyte Ga-965p-DS3. I'm going to load it up with Ubuntu / Linux and see how that works out.

Very good! It is a uber overkill PC for your purposes, but it will work for quite a while. Especially for $450...

updated the op syst to win 8.1. so far so good. windows 8.1 in the desk top mode really is fast. The box it self is typical Dell quiet. Hardly know it's on. I don't like the Dell "chiklet" key board. It looks like a laptop format key board with similar key action. Going back to my microsoft key board as soon as I get a USB adapter for it.
