Any thoughts on the SMC Barricade 4-Port 10/100 Switch/Router?

I love mine...

especially with my DSL.. I couldn't stand it if I had to use PPPoE software on my machine 😉

AWESOME... too bad I don't have broadband connected to it... since my DSL connection became nonexistant, I'm about to start using an external modem.

Yep I've used the SMC and the Linksys. They both have their strengths but I like the SMC a little better. Works like a charm.

I have to agree. I just got my SMC a few days ago. It was a snap to setup and I love the bonus print server. I no longer have to turn on my computer when my kids want to print on my laser printer from their computer. And it was a joy to yank the PPPoE software off my system. Works like a dream so far. Absolutely no speed degredation, and in fact I downloaded a file from Microsoft the other day, and it downloaded at 143kB per second, the fastest download I have ever done with my DSL line. I was looking at the Netgear, which many claim to be the best, but when I saw the SMC had the print server for less money, I changed my mind, and I am glad I did. It works better than I ever expected and I highly recomend it. And don't forget this unit has a lifetime warranty.

Love it, But I wish I could increase the lease time for a dynamic IP. My IP only changes about one a day and this router requests a new IP about every two hours. This is a minor problem.

I got this when outpost had it for 100 shipped overnight. I think I got it back in November. Never had a problem with it. I have 3 pcs hooked up and saves mad money from ordering extra ip addresses.

Hmm, what really bugs me is that the 5VDC input doesn't hook onto the plug properly... The wire falls out too easily.

My works so well, I have simply forgot about it. I use the print server feature, and love that too.

Hook it up, use it, forget about it. That is the kind of hardware I like.
