Any thoughts on Rambus XDR?

This stuff seems like it could be the new future in ram. The PS3 is supposed to be using it. AMD just signed a deal with RAMBUS for the use of its memory controller design. The new tech seems to be amazing. I know that AMD's current processors aren't starved for bandwidth as of yet, but wouldnt it be suffice to say that multiple cores could possibly be starved for bandwidth in the near future? Also heard tell of rumors suggesting that Nvidia will release the 8 series GFX cards with the XDR ram. Can anyone concur? I'd really like to know more about this as very little information is available via google.

RAMBUS XDR/XDR2

Dang. Didn't these people learn their lesson about Rambus? Even if it's awesome technology, they should be shunned forever.

I like how they even made the clock generator proprietary and trademarked.

Anyway, we should be going with FB-DIMMs. And quad-data rate.

Well if you owned a company that does nothing but research new technology (AFAIK they dont manufacture anything) wouldnt you want to milk the tech for all its worth too? LOL

I mean look at M$ and the OEM licensing BS. You buy a computer with an OS that you pay extra money for and upon upgrading you have to hassle with M$ for a new product key to register it or otherwise purchase a new copy of the OS. There by negating the money you spent for the OS in the first place. You are typically just renting the OS and you never really own your own copy of the license. I think this is comparable to what RAMBUS is doing. Not that I agree with it, but if the Tech is good and reaches mainstream for reasonable prices (this time) then I think it would be beneficial.
