Any thing we can do to lower our cars radar signature?

That show got me thinking if theres any simple stuff we can do to our car to minimize the cars signature. Of course the car will not be invisible to radar, but just maybe be able to shorten the range of detection, say 500ft to 300ft.

Would a zig-zag pattern on the front plate do anything? Or how about some LO paint on the bumper?

Although.....I have a feeling that if they would have found a good way of fooling the radar, they wouldn't have aired it.

But I think that methods of fooling radar can be illegal, regardless.

Mythbusters is full of BS.

You could use radar absorbing material. Would proly cost you a couple of dozen million per car but...

IIRC, MythBusters is about debunking "urban-myths" Aelius, using a "couple of dozen million per car" defeats the purpose of the show no?

Yea, but they're also for entertainment. For the show, entertaining the audience and ratings takes precedence over scientific procedure sometimes.

Or the insurance liability for suggesting ways to defeat radar

Yes, but for a TV show, they are remarkably scientific.

I drive the speed limit and it drives other people nuts. But I'm not using the extra gas, not risking a ticket, etc.

I'm 18 and pay LESS in car insurance than this one guy I know who is in his mid-30s. Why? Because he had so many speeding tickets.

Sure you can with enough money. Expensive radar absorbing materials will do the trick, but when you blow by the cop at 120 in a school zone he may still go after you regardless of the 0mph on the radar detector...

As per the original question....
Where are any of US going to get radar absorbing materials?
I doubt that there's any of that in any dumpsters nearby.

5-10 over is the safest speed to travel at, statistically speaking.

My record is 100% clean, and I never drive the limit unless conditions are bad or I'm in an unfamiliar area. But I don't speed like a moron either...I keep to the flow of traffic.

Try the dumpster behind the Serbian war museum?

Given that laser is now used instead of radar i doubt that radar absorbing materials would do very much. Realistically you'd need to coat the entire car in something that would diffuse the incoming laser (like the link posted above).

You should drive with the flow of traffic, not become a road hazard by holding up everyone else; giving them road rage and forcing them around you.

Actually both are used. But anyways, most of these gimmicks dont work. Not speeding is the easiest method.

5-9 mph over carries a low risk of a speeding ticket
10-15 mph over carries a moderate risk
>15 mph over, plan on getting out the check book

They also don't have the multi-million dollar budget (at least for a single episode) that that would require. There's no practical way for them to fully test it.
