We had something similar happen. Instead of mashed potatoes my wife decided to do mashed root vegetables this year. It's a combination of potatoes, parsnips, and celery root. Well once her father found out what it was he refused to try them....he wouldn't even look at them and this man LOVES his potatoes. haha

We discovered my sister's fridge died so I had to bring home all the leftovers. Now I have to eat leftovers for days and also order parts to fix her fridge.

The usual, four cats with four bowls, three cats cramming their heads in one bowl while the forth cat dined alone, two bowls untouched.

He's not wrong, you know. I love all those root vegetables, but if someone is serving me mashed potatoes or what by all rational appearance should only ever be mashed potatoes, they better god damn well be all potato(e).

you can just get right the fuck out.

I don't recall all of Europe invading and colonizing the American continents because of parsnips. Do you?

In fact, it might have been the existence of the parsnip that encouraged them to seek a better world in the first place.

just the phrase “ root vegetables “ makes me want to scream. I want mashed potatoes please!

Well to be fair potatoes are a root vegetable. Honestly they tasted pretty darn good. The parsnips added a slight nutty flavor and are less starchy then straight potatoes so they were fluffier. The celeriac just added a nice mellow flavor to a dish that is pretty boring to begin with.

It's not like she tried to hide it from him.....she just didn't tell him ahead of time......:D haha

I mean, when I make Loaded Baked Potato Soup it's only about 50% potato. The other half is cauliflower; the cruciferous vegetable keeps the carbs down and doesn't change the taste or texture one bit.

Can we meet at turnips? Potatoes are just not very good.

I was once served turnip soup by someone who claimed it was better than potato, so no, we may not meet there or anywhere proximate to there.

The only thing similar I've ever had that exceeds the greatness of proper mashed potat (garlic, a rump load of butter, whipping it) is that Parmesan and black peppercorn cauliflower puree.

That stuff is ridiculous.

Parsnips are underrated, like brussel sprouts. Preparation is usually what went wrong when I hear people bash them. Sorry guys, don't bitch to me about brussel sprouts if you're boiling them. That's on you.
