Any telltale signs of ebay sniping?

Some soab stole my £35 1.4 tualatin at 5 seconds, these things can sell for £100+ and he nicked it 🙁 🙁 🙁 Was it just luck or was he a sniper?

The telltale sign of sniping is bidding in the last few seconds.

I don't understand equating sniping with stealing, though-- it's a legitimate bidding stragegy.

Not if theyre using a sniping program.

You got sniped.

It's really the only way to do it. There's nothing worse than placing your "maximum bid" on an item you want early...and then some stupid n00b sees it, and bids 25 times in $1.50 increments, one right after the other, until he's "winning" - 4 days before the auction ends. Then, someone outbids him, and he does it again, till he's on top...etc.

Snipe in the last 10 seconds, the n00b is cut out of the picture, and you get the item cheaper.

Why does it matter if they are using a sniping program or not? It is still a legitimate bidding strategy...

Agreed. OP should have put his real maximum bid if he didn't want to get sniped.

Agreed - sniping is legitimate. If you want the item, you should either using the sniping software, or you should bid up to your max through eBay. Otherwise you are just bitching and complaining.

Nothing wrong with sniping at all. Like any other bid, it was placed within the start time and end time of the auction. Perfectly legal and an excellent strategy.

i hate those bid nibblers! those people make me wonder if they're affiliated with the seller and are artificially trying to boost the price.

i love sniping. I used one for the first time the other day, got a pair of $160 retail oakley's for $90. Reguarly go for about $110 on ebay, so i was pretty happy with the result

I manually snipe... Don't want to mess with those programs.
Also the prices of the items usually hover around a certain range. I don't think they "usually" sell for around 100 if your listing only went for $35.
Either bad luck or at that time it wasn't in high demand.

If you don't snipe, you are a moron.

If you bitch about being sniped, you are a moron.

I've seen people do the n00b bidding wars in the last 10 seconds. Or should I say snipe wars.
The price for a lens was $70 15seconds before the close. When it closed, the price went up to $150 with 8 more bids.
