I wasn't but the Donnie Darko Soundtrack is turning me around ... Mad World is a great song, though I enjoy the Gary Jules version more.

that version bares little resemblance to the new wave sound of the original

Perhaps .. I find the Gary Jules version to depress me more.

High time we made a stand and shook up the views of the common man
And the lovetrain rides from coast to coast
D.j.s the man we love the most
Could you be, could you be squeaky clean
And smash any hope of democracry ?
As the headline says youre free to choose
Theres egg on your face and mud on your shoes
One of these days theyre gonna call it the blues

And anything is possible when youre sowing the seeds of love
Anything is possible - sowing the seeds of love

I spy tears in thier eyes
They look to the skies for some kind of divine intervention
Food goes to waste !
So nice to eat, so nice to taste
Politician grannie with your high ideals
Have you no idea how the majority feels ?
So without love and a promise land
Were fools to the rules of a goverment plan
Kick out the style ! bring back the jam !

Anything...
Sowing the seeds
The birds and the bees
My girlfriend and me in love

Feel the pain
Talk about it
If youre a worried man - then shout about it
Open hearts - feel about it
Open minds - think about it
Everyone - read about it
Everyone - scream about it !
Everyone
Everyone - read about it, read about it
Read in the books in the crannies and the nooks there are books to read
Chorus !

(mr. england sowing the seeds of love)

Time to eat all your words
Swallow your pride
Open your eyes

High time we made a stand and shook up the views of the common man
And the lovetrain rides from coast to coast
Every minute of every hour - I love a sunflower
And I believe in lovepower, love power, lovepower !!!

Sowing the seeds
An end to need
And the politics of greed
With love

Some of their stuff is cool. I love the song Head Over Heals. One of the best.

I hated them in the 80's but they have about 2 or 3 songs that I think are pretty good.

In the late 1980's they were gone just as quickly as they came and I never missed them.

Seeds of Love and Elemental were both great CDs, and the rest all have at least 1-2 good songs.

People always suprise me, I just find it weird how so many people can love 80s music while I find it to be the bane of human existance, a time of nothingness and nothing new. The great 80s with nothing to call their own except bad new wave music. To each their own I suppose but some things I will never understand. Maybe it is just growing up with a certain type of music than increases the fondness based on the memories around it? idk

On my playlist:

Advice for the Young At Heart
Break It Down Again
Brian Wilson's Song
Head Over Heels
Mad World
Sowing The Seeds

Oddly enough, my favorite is Brian Wilson's Song, as it perfectly captures Wilson's earlier Beach Boys jingly tunes and then floats you off on a cloud with its chorus. I was quite glad that Roland and Curt patched up their differences in recent years as well.

jandrews, if you think the 80's offered nothing, what will the last 7 years since 2000 offer up ??

Quite a few good songs by them.

Interesting note, back in the 80s when they were popular and on tour my half sister was a backup singer for them. I, along with my family, got to go back stage and meet them after the concert. I barely remember it as I was maybe 8 at the time though.

It is always hard to judge a generation so close to it's passing. I think alternative rock and grunge from the 90s more than make up for the boy bands of the later days especially since the late 80s had their own share of boy bands, bad hair rock bands and new wave music that existed just for the fact that it could.

The 90s undoubtedly will be remembered for grunge, from Alice in Chains to Pearl Jam and Nirvana. The 80's were electronica, but so far .. the new acts have .... nothing.

Sowing the Seeds is an excellent song and cd, even if it is a greatest hits package.

Really?

First Shuttle Launch (1981)
The CD-ROM (1984)
The Apple Macintosh (1984)
The Windows Operating System (1985)
The Disposable Camera (1986)
3D Video Game (1987)
Dopplar Radar (1988)
Digital Cellular Phones (1988)
High Definition TV (1989)
Prozac (1989)

Not to mention there were some really great bands that probably most of your bands would say they're influenced by.

Can't tell you how stoked I was when "Everybody Loves a Happy Ending" came out. I didn't even know until I caught "Who Killed Tangerine" on Pandora, went out and got the CD that night.

One of my favorite bands these days.

EDIT - ELaHE came out in 2004 - I think it ties with Seeds of Love for their best work.
